Classics
Latin is an important and interesting language that develops the understanding of the English language and enables the pupils to apply their knowledge to a wider linguistic learning. The curriculum at Wellesley helps the pupils to enhance their knowledge of English grammar and the irregularity of it. The pupils can also expand their English vocabulary in the Latin classroom when we look at English derivations from Latin words. The aim of Latin at Wellesley is to bring alive the Latin language alongside learning essential grammar for their potential learning of Latin in the future.
Classical Civilisation allows the pupils to explore the history and culture of the Classical world and their colourful mythology. It provides a cross-curricular link between Art, History and Drama. These topics can sometimes include presentation work, group work and independent study. The aim of Classical Civilisation at Wellesley is to encourage young learners to reflect upon and assess selected aspects of the classical world and their influences upon society today.
